Buffalo Street Books offers several ways to be a part of our efforts. The most direct form of involvement is to become an owner of the store. Currently, Buffalo Street Books has over six hundred owners, all of whom have made a financial commitment to the ongoing viability of the store by making a one-time share purchase. Owners receive several benefits unavailable to the general public. We also offer subscriptions, which are paid yearly and earn a discount on all purchases.

Becoming an Owner

Each of our owners has purchased a share or multiple shares of the store. These shares form the equity which allows our cooperative bookstore to operate.

In return for their purchase of a $250 share, each owner gets a vote in major policy decisions and capital expenditures, as well as election of the Board of Directors. They get a deep discount and first access at our twice-yearly sales, discounted rates for workshops and other owner-only perks throughout the year. They also receive an annual patronage dividend, a non-taxable  share of the bookstore’s profit  based on their purchases throughout the previous year.

Most importantly, they get the pride of owning a bookstore in the heart of downtown.

Becoming a Subscriber

Buffalo Street Books subscribers pay a yearly subscription which earns them a 10% discount on most purchases at the register for that year.  They are not voting owners of the cooperative, they support the store through their patronage. Yearly subscriptions are $20 for owners and seniors or $25 for the general public.
